Starbucks RFP
Background
At Ripple I tended to go towards client pitches and concepts for the installation partners. Ripple screens were in Coffee Bean and Tea leaf, Tully’s, Robeck’s Juices and Einstein bagels, etc. Starbucks came knocking and I raised my hand to explore ideas that we presented.
I know they had music and bulletin boards in their locations, as well as some of the aesthetic choices that were pretty common.
Process
I went to stores, Starbucks I think provided some assets and confirmed ideas. I felt that I had complete autonomy, I am sure I didn’t, but I was able to create all the assets, set the pace, talk to all the features that we wanted to highlight.
The biggest selling piece we [Ripple] had was that we could be hyperlocal when serving content, down to the store. So What we did for one we could for others and at scale.
Outcome
This was created sometime in 2008, and I believe what I remember, was that it was well received, but we didn’t close the deal. My recollection was that they were either in negotiations to do this themselves or with someone else and they were looking for ideas. I say that with I also don’t 100% know why, but we were proud of this offering.
We being the PM, my manager, the leadership of the company and the sales people we worked with.
